After noticing a call for presenters post on the MSU site, I spent weeks deciding whether or not I would apply. The Imposter Syndrome is strong with this one!! I thought, surely this sort of honor was reserved for the elite members of MSUs community. Who would want to hear from a lowly Social Worker […]
Since 2010 MSU Denver Chicana/o Studies Journey Through Our Heritage team has supported a project known as the Return of the Corn Mothers. This multi-generational and multi-cultural exhibit of stories and portraits of women features over 70 women, each who recounts in story form the women who influenced them in their life journey. Giving a TEDx talk is on my bucket list but seemed improbable. I was encouraged to apply in 2020 and chose not to. I balked at the idea. Taking on something so big amid the already overwhelming life I was living was too daunting. I am a mother of two wonderful young girls. I work […]
The process of doing a TEDx talk is a journey that is worth all the hard work. I had an idea that my surrounding community wanted to know more about and wanted to know what I was doing to tell even more people about my idea. The excitement around my idea made me apply to […]

I think we all come from different places as we walk towards that Ted stage. It’s an honor to be included in a group of such knowledgeable and well-rounded individuals. I know for me that the moment I received the email that my application to give this Ted Talk was approved, I felt simultaneously thrilled, […]
As a professional pianist and conductor, I love the rush of making something magical in the moment. I want others to experience the thrill of being creative, and I know that embracing risk and surprise can transform leadership and music education. But while I’m very comfortable performing in front of large audiences, when I have […]
The way we, as a society, talk about undocumented immigrants has always concerned me. Even more so has this been on my mind throughout our last divisive, polarizing election. I decided to apply to TEDxMSUDenver to share my perspective, as a former illegal immigrant, on how much our country benefits from the fruits of undocumented […]
Being isolated and then surrounded by dancers this past year and a half has reminded us how essential the skills learned through dance are. Every day, dancers practice resilience as they learn to work through all the variables their bodies throw at them, adaptability when someone (or something) they are dancing with makes an unexpected […]
